FAQs:

My approach to understanding and working with trauma

Describing my "trauma-informed" approach

In this section, I explore the different ways trauma can occur, how it can affect the nervous system and various aspects of life, and how protective stress-response patterns can develop. I also describe how I work with the nervous system and these patterns through a focused, body-centered coaching approach. This same approach is integrated into my community and professional training engagements and other group work that does not focus on trauma, but instead on helping people navigate stress, challenge, and change more effectively at work and at home — because all of these experiences involve working with our nervous system!

Whether you are on a journey toward trauma recovery, working to change deeply ingrained limiting patterns, building new skills, or pursuing meaningful goals in life, my approach can support you in moving forward with greater awareness, choice, confidence, and freedom. I bring a combination of specialized professional training and lived experience, including the perspective of someone who has navigated the effects of trauma herself. This work offers a different way of supporting trauma recovery — one grounded in coaching, body-centered practices, and building new capacities and resources. While coaching can be a deeply meaningful part of your trauma recovery journey, it is important that you know it is not intended to be a form of mental health therapy, diagnosis, advice, healing, or treatment by a licensed mental health professional. Coaching can be pursued on its own or alongside therapy, depending on your needs, and I’m happy to talk through what might be most supportive for you.

The information and perspectives shared in these FAQs reflect my understanding and interpretation of the approaches I've studied and practiced. I recognize that these modalities, the broader field, and my own understanding continue to learn and evolve!
